Behind the Scenes
We had the most incredible time filming at Lindores in September 2023. Then final filming was in November with Red Sky Productions. During the final we got to meet the owners of the 7 final escape destinations. We also met the full panel of highly respected judges who are some of the UK’s top hospitality and tourism experts.
The final episode was hosted in The Cow Shed, Crail and all escape owners travelled the length and breadth of Scotland for filming. On this day we found out who would be crowned winner of Series 2 of BBC Scotlands Greatest Escape.
The Final Escapes – who were they?
What an inspiring group of owners the seven finalists were! We’ve made an effort to stay connected and now have a WhatsApp group called ‘The Secret Seven’. We’re passionate about showcasing all that Scotland has to offer!
In Episode One the winner of the ‘Unique and Unusual’ category and overall winner of the series was The Broch at Borve Lodge. Owners Cathra and Adam Kelliher have Scotlands largest uninhabited island called Taransay – they’ve built an Iron Age fort on Harris – It has WOW Factor and was a worthy winner – well done!
Episode Two the winner of the ‘Luxury’ category was The Cromlix Hotel at Dunblane. Owners and tennis legend Andy Murray and wife Kim have created a hotel haven. Barry the manager at The Cromlix hotel shared a heartfelt story of how the historical building has been refurbished, nurtured to now offer delicious afternoon teas and delightful breaks amongst tasteful interiors and scenery.
Episode Three the winner of the ‘Budget Friendly’ category was The Bus Stop. Owners Balfour and son Sandy are part of the Scottish Agritourism group and they have converted old buses into quirky self-catering accommodation on their former farm outside Edinburgh. The interiors and lunches with goats are family friendly – a great escape for sure.
Episode Four the winner of ‘Lochs, Bens and Glens’ Category was Glenorchy Farm with owners Fiona and Tristan MacLennan. Glenorchy like Lindores are a diversified farm with the most spectacular views and a passion for sustainable living.
Episode Five the winner of the ‘Foodie’ category was us! The Hide at Lindores was a triumphant success and judges appeared to love our luxury accommodation, customer service, circular farm to fork practices and views.
Episode Six the winner of the ‘Adventure’ Category was Island Pods. Owners Indi and Max were a young dynamic duo offer experiences on water. Judges were captivated by the wildlife on display.
Episode Seven the winner of the ‘Island & Coastal’ Category was Duisdale House Hotel on Isle of Skye. Owner Anne and manager Andreas are vivacious characters and Anne clearly has a passion for buying and refurbishing hotels to warmly welcome guests globally to Isle of Skye.
